LA HORA. Para preguntar la hora decimos: WHAT TIME IS IT? o WHAT IS THE TIME?

.- LA HORA EN PUNTO  (O’CLOCK).

8:00 It’s eight o’clock.

1:00 It’s one o’clock.

12:00 It’s twelve o’clock.

.- LA HORA Y CUARTO  (a quarter past – fifteen past)

5:15 It’s a quarter past five or It’s fifteen past five.

4:15 It’s a quarter past four or It’s fifteen past four.

.- LA HORA Y MEDIA (a half past or thirty past)

8:30 It’s a half past eight or  It’s thirty past eight.

1:30 It’s a half past one or It’s thirty past one.

3:30 It’s a half past three or It’s thirty past three.

.- MINUTOS QUE FALTAN PARA LA HORA SIGUIENTE (...TO…)

8:40 It’s twenty to nine.

5:50 It’s ten to six.

12:55 It’s five to one.

10:47 It’s thirteen to eleven.

MORE EXAMPLES:

9:25 It’s twenty five past nine.

7:05 It’s five past seven.

3:29 It’s twenty nine past three.

12:59 It’s one to one.

1:58 It’s two to two.

3:00 It’s three o’clock.

 

TO BE VERB IN PRESENT TENSE.

Este verbo tiene dos significados: SER Y ESTAR. De acuerdo a la persona gramatical (pronombres personales), lo hallamos de las siguientes formas: AM – IS – ARE.

PERSONAL PRONOUNS         TO BE VERB

EXAMPLES:

1.- Mary is at home.

2.- She is a girl.

3.- You are friends.

4.- They are in the classroom.

5.- Susan is beautiful.

6.- He is a handsome boy.

7.- I am the English teacher.

Cuando se hacen preguntas  (oraciones interrogativas), para ser respondidas en forma afirmativa o negativa (YES/NO), AM, IS, ARE pasa a ser auxiliar; es decir, se coloca al principio de la oración interrogativa.

EXAMPLES:

1.- Is Mary at home?

2.- Is she a girl?

3.- Are you friends?

4.- Are they in the classroom?

5.- Is Susan beautiful?

6.- Is he a handsome boy?

7.- Am I the English teacher?

Para responder, se pueden realizar de dos formas: afirmativa o negativa  (corta y/o larga).

Tomemos dos oraciones interrogativas y las respondemos de ambas formas. Observen y practiquen con las demás!

7.- AM I THE ENGLISH TEACHER?

YES, YOU ARE.  (Affirmative short answer).

YES, YOU ARE THE ENGLISH TEACHER. (Affirmative long answer).

NO, YOU AREN´T. (Negative short answer)

NO, YOU AREN´T THE ENGLISH TEACHER. (Negative long answer).

5.- IS SUSAN BEAUTIFUL?

YES, SUSAN IS.

YES, SUSAN IS BEAUTIFUL.

NO, SUSAN ISN’T.

NO, SUSAN ISN’T BEAUTIFUL.

.- RESPONDER PREGUNTAS PERO EMPLEANDO LAS FORMAS WH- o HOW….

WHAT…Qué?   WHERE…Dónde?   WHO…Quién?  WHY… Por qué?  HOW… Cómo?

EXAMPLES:

1.- Where is Peter?

Peter is in the classroom.

2.- Who are they?

They are Susan and Alice.

3.- What is Cynthia?

Cynthia is a nurse.

4.- Why are you there?

Because there is a great game.

                        They are spring, autumn, Winter and summer.

Observen como a partir de una oración declarativa se pueden formular preguntas(oracion interrogativa) y responder en forma afirmativa (corta y larga) o negativa (corta y larga).                   

*THERE IS A DOG AT HOME. (Declarative form)

   IS THERE A DOG AT HOME? (Interrogative form)

   Yes, there is. (Affirmative short answer)

   Yes, there is a dog at home. (Affirmative long answer)

   No, there isnt. (Negative short answer)
